About IGCC

In a process using oxygen, coal is converted to a combustible gas inside a high temperature and high pressure gasifier unit. That gas is burned to turn a gas turbine, and the exhaust heat from that turbine is used to create steam in a boiler for further power generation (the technology integrates gas and steam turbines to generate power).
IGCC technology is a key technology in a plan to promote empirical research projects that aim to realize “zero-emission coal-fired power generation.,” as was proposed in a report by Japan’s Advisory Council.
This technology has the potential to exceed the efficiency of conventional coal with lower CO2 emissions, and when paired with technology that can capture and sequester CO2, It is expected to contribute greatly to the advancement of zero-emission coal fired power.

Powder Injection Technology

Our core technology, powder injection technology, is employed in hot metal pretreatment facilities, blast furnace mold bed desiliconization facilities, converter (rotary kiln) powder injection facilities, and various powder discharge equipment to achieve various output results and reliability.
The pulverized coal injection equipment (PCI equipment and link here!) injects pulverized coal into the blast furnace tuyères under uniform pressure. Detailed pressure loss analysis is used to equalize the pressure differences between the tuyères. Tank pressure control and variable valves allows us to realize stable continuous injection with high precision.

Adoption in Oxygen Blown IGCC Power Plant Test Facilty

Our technology is being adopted for use by Osaki CoolGen (joint venture between Chugoku Electric Power Co., Ltd. and Electric Power Development Co., Ltd.) for their IGCC test facility (power plant), which is being built in the town of Osaki-kamijima in Hiroshima Prefecture.  Operation of the plant is set to begin from March 2017.
